Reims, last home of the Mirage F1 (2010)

The Airbase Reims currently contains nearly all of the French Mirage F1s Air Force. The use of the Mirage F1 is coming to its end, so this was a good opportunity capture on film, this special design of Dassault.
The Dassault Mirage F1 is the only non delta plane that this aircraft builder made.

Dassault designed the Mirage F1 as a private venture, using its own funds, as a successor to its Mirage III and Mirage 5 fighters. The first prototype made its maiden flight on 23 December 1966.
Although it has a smaller wingspan than the Mirage III, the F1 nevertheless proved to be clearly superior to its predecessor. It can carry up to 43% more fuel, has a shorter take-off run and better maneuverability. In total 740 Mirage F1 where build.

It was also a great export product for Dassault, because it sold the Mirage F1 to more then 10 other countries.

We want to thank GRAS for the opportunity to visit the base.
